The bold padded shoulders have a long and powerful history. Initially invented in the late 18th century as a form of protection of American football players uniform, its first women’s fashion appearance came courtesy of Marcel Rochas in 1930. In woman, however their biggest fashion moment is associated with power-dressing of the ’80s where the big shoulders were often used as a way to send a message of confidence of female workforce. Nowadays they showed up again. More exaggerated this time, Fall/Winter 2023 runways are full of them. Luxury fashion houses like Balmain, Saint Laurent, Givenchy or Courrèges are just a few examples. There was an almost 50 percent increase in bold shoulders during the recent fall season shows over last year. Therefore, we can say that the trend will appear in all stores and will hit the streets.
